Artifacts for my Summative
Engagement
Students know what they are learning and why they are learning it! Students feel excited to come to LLI, because lessons are geared to fit their individual needs and lessons include researched based teaching strategies such as modeling, positive reinforcement, immediate & descriptive feedback, and cooperative learning.
Our Reader's Theater performances really are important to both our students and their families! The scripts are FUN and therefore the students are able to "get into character" and become silly! The scripts increase fluency and reading comprehension in all students. Even parents are engaged because they help students practice their role every night and they will be invited to the final performance!
Every time a student increases their reading level, they are praised! They get to write their name on our data bulletin board, color in their data chart, and receive an award. This helps them stay focused on their reading goal!
Cultural Responsiveness
ALL students are welcome to LLI! We take the time to get to know all we can about each student - No judgments allowed! Students are praised on a regular basis, which increases positive behavior. They can choose from a variety of rewards for displaying such awesomeness! We RARELY have behavior problems!
Parents are contacted on a regular basis, through the daily reading calendar, emails, phone calls, and class Dojo. They are contacted for the good MORE than the bad! The parents are invited to fun events and we always keep in mind their dominant home language!
PLCs
I have built positive relationships with all my PLC coworkers, sending them emails of updates, sharing lesson ideas, and even modeling lessons in their classrooms.
During PLC time, I take notes, share ideas, look at data, and inform teachers of what I am seeing in regards to student progress during LLI. I send quarterly data in a timely manner, and use it to have kid-by-kid conversation with teachers!
In hearing that our students were struggling with reading comprehension, I took the initiative to offer weekly Close Reading sessions to every student that had attended LLI, even if they had graduated. Now we meet in room 134 to engage in close reading, and student scores have risen. Also, since IREAD and ISTEP were a big deal, we made cute encouraging notes to all LLI students!

Overall, if student engagement, cultural responsiveness, and PLC participation were not high, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of data:
