Walkthroughs

Walkthroughs are super important!  They are quick, help students see my face and know who I am, and help me determine what's going on with TAs.   I want to catch them doing something awesome and be able to praise them for it!  I can also help establish a presence to keep TAs on the right track.  I can see what's really going on during their instruction time! I don't have a free hour yet- but I'm thinking of using at least one instructional period a month to make time for this.  It's SUPER important!!

Student Self Monitoring

We really need to encourage students to assess themselves.  In order to do so, we have students keep track of their progress throughout the year.  They fill out their LLI Goal chart every time we test- 5 times throughout the year.  At the beginning of the year, they see where they are and decide where they'd like to be by May (end of the year).  I have students look at this periodically, especially if they need a little pep talk.   Every time we are done testing, students can write their names up on our bulletin board to show off how many LLI levels they've grown.  They love getting up on the chair and signing the board!!
